The 2026 STR conference calendar worth your travel budget

The 2026 STR conference calendar worth your travel budget

Short-term rental conferences have stopped being niche meetups. They're now where the playbook gets written — where operators, tech providers, and regulators argue out what the next year looks like. If you run anywhere from one listing to fifty, the right conference can save you months of trial and error.

The hard part is choosing. There are more STR events on the calendar than any operator can attend, spread across continents, with overlapping content and very different price tags. This guide is a directory: the conferences worth your time and travel budget in 2026, what each one is genuinely good for, and how to come home with more than a tote bag.

Whether you operate in Austin, Queenstown, Mexico City, or somewhere the map hasn't caught up with yet, here's where to be.

Australia and New Zealand

STRIVE to Thrive — Melbourne

Dates: March 11-12, 2026 Location: Melbourne, Australia Best for: ANZ operators, and anyone scaling a portfolio in a mature, regulated market

STRIVE has become the fastest-growing short-term rental conference in the Australia and New Zealand region. What started in 2023 as a gathering for "doers, not theorists" sold out in year one and has grown sharply each year since.

The Melbourne event features a VIP Action Masterclass Day with hands-on training, followed by a full conference day and the STRIVE STR Awards ceremony. Topics span market trends, marketing strategies, guest experience, legal considerations, and technology adoption.

Australia and New Zealand are among the most mature and most regulated STR markets in the world. If you operate in Byron Bay or Queenstown, this is your home event. If you operate anywhere else, Melbourne is a useful preview of where occupancy caps, registration schemes, and guest expectations tend to head next.

STRIVE to Thrive — Auckland

Dates: March 17-18, 2026 Location: Auckland, New Zealand Best for: New Zealand operators, cross-Tasman networking

Following immediately after Melbourne, the Auckland edition serves New Zealand's growing STR community with the same format and quality. If you run properties in Queenstown, Wanaka, or Auckland itself, this one is closer to home and worth pairing with Melbourne if your budget allows.

United States

VRMA International Conference — Nashville

Dates: October 4-6, 2026 Location: Nashville, Tennessee Best for: Operators scaling aggressively, anyone evaluating their tech stack

VRMA International is the largest STR conference on the calendar, bringing together thousands of operators and technology companies. The US is the biggest short-term rental market in the world, so the exhibition floor alone is worth the trip — you can see channel managers, dynamic pricing tools, and guest messaging platforms in action instead of reading feature pages.

It's a US-centric event, but the operational and technology strategies that show up here tend to spread to other markets within a year or two. Operators in Austin, Sedona, and Park City treat it as a fixed point in the calendar. If you run a growing portfolio anywhere, going once gives you a clear read on where the industry is heading.

Latin America

Direct Booking Summit — Mexico City

Date: 2026 (specific dates to be confirmed) Location: The St. Regis Mexico City Best for: Any operator serious about reducing OTA dependency

The Direct Booking Summit is the only major conference built entirely around one question: how do you get guests to book with you directly instead of through an OTA? For operators in high-commission markets — and that's most markets — the strategies here pay for the ticket many times over.

Mexico City is a fitting host. Latin America's STR market is growing fast, from urban demand in São Paulo and Buenos Aires to leisure markets in Tulum, Medellín, and Cartagena. If you operate in the region, this is a chance to network locally and learn direct-booking tactics at the same time.

Worth watching from anywhere

Direct Booking Success Summit

Dates: November 17-19, 2026 Location: Online Why it's on the list: An online event focused entirely on reducing OTA reliance through marketing, branding, and revenue management. The virtual format means no travel costs and no time zone is excluded. If your conference budget is tight or you can't justify the flights, this is the highest-value way to spend three days.

Notable conferences elsewhere

A few regional events are worth knowing about, even if they're outside the cities most operators travel to. STRA Bangkok (February 11-12, Bangkok, Thailand) is the flagship event for Asia's STR community, with a strong focus on regulatory enforcement and local OTA strategy. The STRA Expo & Forum (April 16-17, Empire City, Malaysia) pairs a property-technology exhibition with a forum on market trends. STRIVE to Thrive adds a Bali edition this year (September 10, Indonesia), and SCALE India (December 8-9, Mumbai) covers one of the fastest-emerging STR markets anywhere. If you operate in or near these markets, they're well worth a look.

How to get real value from a conference

Go with specific questions. Before you book, write down the three biggest problems in your business right now. Seek out the speakers and attendees who've already solved them. Aimless networking produces aimless results.

Evaluate technology in person. Conference expos let you see channel managers, dynamic pricing tools, and guest messaging platforms running, side by side. That's far more useful than reading feature comparison pages online.

Build your operator network. The best outcome of a conference isn't one takeaway — it's an ongoing relationship with operators who face the same problems you do. Trade contacts with five to ten people running portfolios about the size of yours.

Implement one thing within 48 hours. Conferences generate enthusiasm, and most attendees act on none of it. Commit to one concrete change before you leave the room, and do it within two days of getting home.
